Dietitian/ Wellness Coordinator

Purpose / Job Description:
The Dietitian/Wellness Coordinator, under the supervision of the Senior Operations Manager is responsible for special diet menus, developing & coordinating programs for school cafeterias, district, staff, and the community that promote good nutrition and wellness. 


Minimum Qualifications:
(Only those who meet the minimum qualifications as posted should apply) 

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in food and nutrition, dietetics, home and consumer science, nutrition education, public health or a directly related field.
  • Current certification as a Registered and/or Licensed Dietitian (preferred).
  • 2 years of Nutrition and/or Food Services experience in an institutional, community, or Child Nutrition operation (preferred).
  • External candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by candidate.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.

Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of nutrition and wellness principles for improved health.
  • Knowledge of quantity food preparation in food service environment.
  • Experience with food allergens and special diet menu development.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills for public speaking and communicating effectively with various groups.
  • Computer skills-Excel, Google, Word, and Nutrient Analysis software.
  • Proficient math skills to conduct nutrient analysis.
  • Ability to multitask, appropriately prioritize, is detail-oriented, goal-driven, willing to learn, and assume responsibility.

 


Duties & Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide special diet menus for students with documented food allergies and/or medical conditions in collaboration with school nurses,
  2. parents, healthcare providers, and Child Nutrition staff.
  3. Ensure district's compliance with special diet program requirements outlined in Child Nutrition state and federal guidelines.
  4. Provide input to district Menu Planner on menu items suitable for students with food allergies and special diet needs.
  5. Conduct site visits to provide training on special diets and food safety considerations.
  6. Respond to parent, community, and district concerns in regard to special diets.
  7. Coordinate nutrition education programs for students, district staff, parents, and the community that benefit various groups.
  8. Identify opportunities for community involvement, partnerships, grants, and award recognition for nutrition and wellness in the department and district.
  9. Serve on SHAC (Student Health and Wellness Advisory Committee). 
  10. Represent Child Nutrition at media & public relations events and participate in interviews on topics related to the NISD Child Nutrition department.
  11. Collaborate with district staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local nutrition standards outlined in the district's wellness policy. 
  12. Participate in state and regional professional development.
  13. Participate in department and district nutrition and wellness activities after school and an occasional weekend.
  14. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Working Conditions: 

Maintain emotional control under stress. District-wide travel and occasional state-wide travel. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
